Copyright is life of the author plus 70 years.  Many authors have traditionally published works and need to keep current on the status of their books with their publishers.  These same authors have retained many rights and also have the potential to revert rights and re-publish themselves.  In addition to their traditional print partners they may or can have an entire additional career as a self publisher and/or as a licensor of their retained rights.  Authors must inventory, monitor and exploit this vast amount of intellectual property over their lifetimes.  It even goes beyond that.  With copyright valid life + 70 they will have estates of intellectual property.  It's weird, but key, what will happen to my work when I am dead and how can I leave a living legacy of not only my work, but the revenue that it will still be creating.
